Ambian should be only used in the event that a patient is able to spend a complete night in bed (7-8 hours) and before having to go out for work or any other activity. It should not be taken alongside food. The patient should avoid drinking any alcohol the evening before or even just before taking AMBIEN.

AMBIEN cannot go through the liver so rapidly in patients suffering from mild or moderate impairment. Patients who are impaired need to take lower doses of AMBIEN.
