1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. 2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store.
