happy-smiling-woman-with-car-key-driving-2022-11-17-00-15-14-utc-min-scaled.jpgHow to Replace an audi keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you are having problems with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

Subaru-logo.pngI also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or audi key Fob a misfire in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at a Bosch unit which is what ours are. You can also choose the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your replacement audi a4 key since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine of the car is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a common part that is found across the replacement audi key cost uk - just click Bos 7 - 80, 100 200, UrS and audi key fob Not working RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best parts could be found in wrecking yards.
